THE DUCHESS OF YORK
Our Loudon correspondent writes:Naturally the Duchess of York ha* been very busy getting new frocks for her journey. A few days ago sh* was seen to alight, unaccompanied, from a great limousine car. at th« entrance to a well-known showroom in Maddox Street Here, it is related, she spent a couple of hours, in the exciting business of trying on new frocks that have been prepared. "Simplicity (one reads in a London paper) is the keynote of the majority of the dresses chosen by the 'Little Duchess.' It is true that a few picture dresses are included in the outfit she has selected for her coming tour, but most of her dresses, whether for the day or evening, are very plain, and, where an embroidered model has been chosen the decoration is, generally speaking, omitted in the copy. As to colours,' lilac, mauve, the pink that has a tint of biscuit about it, and the soft hedge-sparrow-egg blue, all of, which suit the Duchess remarkably well, figure conspicuously in the frocks she has chosen. There are hats to match the day frocks. The majority of these are small, with upturned brims, and are trimmed with a cluster of ribbons, feathers, or some kind of ornament on the right side. "Several jumper suits are included in the outfit. One is of platinum grey crepe de chine. Another onepiece affair in silvery crepe de chine has a deep tuck rou * the hips which gives a jumper effect. Another jumper toilette i s expressed in terms of lilac mauve chiffon moire and crepella in the same shade. The crepella skirt has stitched box pleats and coat of the same material. Th« jumper of the chiffon moire has a low hip belt and overlapping petals of the moire in front. Among the e\oning gowns, a picture model in yellow chiffon velvet has a plain bodice and a wide, almost hooped, skirt. and another picture frock is of peach tinted gauze velvet. A straight dress of pink chiffon has a pink lame foundation. The long cross-over corsage is plain. The gathered skirt Is trimmed with alternate 'ribbons' of chiffon sewn with pink crystals, and others covered with rather large circular pailletteg of pink sphynx."
