SATURDAY'S CRICKET.

LEVIN v. OTAKI. AN EXCITING GAME. Levin and Otaki" cricket teams met on the latter's ground on Saturday, and a very exciting game eventuated. Levin Avent to the Avickets. first, but from the outset the boAvlers dominated the position, and runs Avere very difficult to obtain, Bennett being thi« only batsmen to reach double figures, the who'leside being dismissed for the' meagre total of 38. Otaki were in a jubilant mood when they took strike, but quickly discovered that they Avere also, up against it, and, chiefly due to brilliant bowling by Phillips,* were two runs behind their opponents when the innings closed. With two and a-half hours of play still left, matters became very interesting, as it Avas realised that anything miffht happen. Levin set out determined to utilise the remaining time at the wickets, and this, to a certain measure, they did, for although only 74 runs were scored, their safety tactics alloAved them to carry on until five past six. In no way disheartened, the southern i men "gaA'e it a go" and forced the pace | 'from the start," but although Sievers and P. Simcox hit lustily, they could not get the required runs in the time, and Levin Avon a moat interesting game by 2 runs on the first innings. Folloaving are the details:— LEVIN.—-First Innings.
