ATTACKED BY A BULL.
PAHIATUA FARMER'S TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Mr James Brown, who resides with his son, Mr G. H.. Brown, of Tiraumea Road, Pahiatua, suffered a terrible experience on Sunday morning when he was attacked and gored'by a two-year-old Jersey bull, says the Pahiatua Herald.
Mr Brown, who is 77 years of age, was engaged in driving the bull and a cow through, a gate to join the herd when the bull suddenly turned and rushed at the old gentleman, knocking him over and rolling him against a new wire-netting fence which served as jui effective barrier and precluded any possibility of the victim being pushed through the wires into a region of safety.
The enraged animal; which hitherto had been considered quite docile, set about goring the unfortunate man who had the presence of mind to grab hold of a twenty-foot chain hanging front the bull's 'lose.. Mr Bro>vn clutched the chain short up to the animal's head and each time the bull attacked to gore he gave the chain a fierce jerk, which had the effect of breaking the force of the animal's attack. This undoubtedly was the means of saving his life, for the infuriated bull had been quite several minutes endeavouring to end the life of his victim before Mr G, H. Brown, a hundred yards away, noticed what was happening and raced to the aid of his exhausted father-
Mr Brown lost no time in beating off the animal, who finally turned its attention to the newcomer and it was.not before the son could get on the other side of a fence and wind the chain round a post that he could go to his father whom lie found in a very distressed condition. Mr Brown, senr., was admitted to the Public Hospital as soon ns possible and it was found that almost the whole of his body, arms and legs were black with bruises, he skin in many places being uroken and the.body altogether in a leiribie state. A horn had passed completely through one hand and there was a hole at the back of one ear, . His clothes were ripped and torn while Ik hung pluckily and tenaciously to the bull's nose.
The victim spent a, -very bad night but was a little easier yesterday morning. 1% \a n,ot kflQwa yet if he is in-
