SHANNON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING. The above meeting was held in the Schoolroom in - Wednesday evening. Present: Messrs R. L. Tippler (chair-, ,* man), E. Butt, J. Bowler, C. Cronquest. A. Blaekwoor, and J. Roberts. Mr W. Christian, who fills the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr G. Watkins, was also present. CORRESPONDENCE. A request w r as received from the Linton School .Committee that the Linton School children and their parents be permitted to travel by the same train as Shannon to and from Plimmerton on the day of the school picnic.—The request was granted provided that that Sphool have "their own carriages and i share with "the hot water and milk, also make their Own‘arrangements for provirions and that they lie in charge or their own carriages and passengers. The resignation, owing to ill-health, of Miss R. Huffam as a member of the teaching staff, was received. —Regret ' was expressed that- Miss Huffam had been compelled to resign, and it was decided to forward to her a letter of appreciation of her services. A tender of £6 12s 6d was received I ffom G. F. Eeles and Co. for the installation at the school of three extra \ lights and alterations to another.—Accepted. From secretary, Education Board, stating that the Board regretted to learn of the unsatisfactory, condition of the asphalt and that it is communicating with the contractor with a view to his ,' remedying the matter. The letter stated it was very disa-mointing that such a complaint as the Committee has lodged appeared to be justified. The. Board would take further action on receipt of the contractor’s reply. From the Education Board stating that application, is being made to the Department for a grant for the erection of a shelter shed for the boys. It is hoped that something will bo done before next winter.
