MARTON MEETING CONCLUDES. MERRY DAY WINS ALDWOR'IH STAKES. The Marton Jockey Club's New Year meeting was concluded on the Feilding course yesterday, when there was again a good public attendance. The weather held until the last two races, when light showers intervened. The racing was more interesting than on the first day, most of the events be- : .w.-ii supported by owners and trainers. The work of the Club's assistant hanuicapper, Mr. A. Trcnson, in bringing the field so well together at the business end of the races was a matter for general comment. The totalisator handled £27,954 for the. day. Last year's total for the meeting was £74,593; this year's £60,410, a decrease of £14,183. A Good Stan. The Acre three-year-old. Crown Area, was a short priced favourite for the Junction Plate., in which Colarina and Roburant; also wore well backed. Abbey Queen caught the ■ jump out and led to the turn from Millie Abbey and Colarina. Crossing the top, Crown Area shot out of the bunch and went after the leaders. He had gathered them at the bottom of he straight and going on, won well by a couple of lengths from, Abbey t>ueen, who just kept Colarina off. Blr-sac waa fourth, and Cracker Day, De.sirt King r.nd Roburant followed. Sottana The Hurdles. Elvaette and Sottana were the favourites for the hurdles. Star Chamber and Ar.le were allowed to make the early running ' and they led through the straight from Elvaette, Sottana and Empire Camp, with Shut Eye a long way back. five, furlongs from home Sottana took charge, and he led across the top from Empire Camp, Elvaette and Lady Gay. Sottana was first over the final obstacle and he won by two lengths from Elvaette, who beat Lady Gay bv two lengths. Empire Camp, Halgina and Joyeuse were next. An inquiry wan held after the race. The stewards, after seeing and hearing W. J. Bowden and H. E. Ryder, reprimanded them for misconduct and stood them down for the rest of the day. W. D. Young bad a couple of toes broken as a result of being collided with severely by Shuteye early in the ract;. A Capitulation. Capitulation was a warm favourite for the Electris Hack Handicap, ir. which Royal Elm, Wilderness and Elysianor also were wjell supported. Capitulation got away badly; Pangolin went to the front before the field haO gone a furlong and led to the straight with a break of four lengths on Royal Elm and Royal Land, with Lieutenant Bill handy and Capitulation making up ground quickly. Pangolin was kept going and won easily by a couple of lengths from Royal Elm, whom Lieutenant Bill just failed to head off. Royal Land was fourth, followed by Wilderness and the favourite. . In Galloping Mood. A very short price was touched by Glenross in the Aldworth Stakes and Fresco was well backed, too! Glenross led out of the straight from Diamond Ring and Kilfaire, and along tho back the favourite was a couple of lengths clear of Diamond Ring, with Kilmiss and Kilfaire together next then Fresco, Ngata and Merry Day. The field bunched a little crossing the top and Merry Day improved her position. Glenross led into the straight, but half a furlong from home, the field was spread across the course, almost in line. Merry Day, on the extreme outer, was going best of all,' and finishing with her usual dash, she won by a length from Fresco, with Kilmiss a neck away, and Glenross closo up. Diamond Ring and Ngata were next, and Kilfaire was a bad last. The winner paid a nice price. % Amateur Riders The presence of Mr. J. Morris in lvilburn's saddle decided which of the runners would be favourite in the i Ladies' Bracelet. The n* xt in favour was Brigadier Bill. The race was a simple affair—Paraki led along the back, but entering the straight, Kilburn and Brigadier Bill came at him and in a rough ride home Brigadier Bill won. by half a length. Hallo wi morn ran up into third place and Everest was fourth. Between Stable Slates. The withdrawal of Bank Note, Gold Box and Precious left but four runners in the Telegraph Handicap. Royal Damon was £l6O better backed than Mireusonta and the other i,\vo, Epistle and Miss Hupana, were paying good prices. Mireusonta and Epistle made the running to well within the straight. Epistle drew out at the distance and appeared to the racein hand but Royal Damon came from behind and just pipped his stable mate on, the post. Mireusonta Avas four lengths away and Miss Hupana well behind. Epistle came in sore. Welt-Earned Win. Horomea and Te Koroke were both heavily backed in the Farewell Hack Handicap. White Ringlet and Ohui and Volplane led along the back from Lady Cynthia, while Te Koroke and Horomea were a length farther back. Te Koroke improved his position on the turn and then Horomea dashed round the field Te Koroke and Horomea were close to the leader at the bottom of he straight. Horomea tooK charge a furlong from home, but had to be ridden out to win by a neck from Te Koroke, who finished well. Lady Cynthia was five lengths away, third : and White Ringlet was fourth. The winner did not get away well and careful handling assisted her a good deal. Polar the Last.

The meeting concluded with the running of the Turakina Handicap, the favourites for which, were Grtat Day and Polar." Polar, Brigadier Bill and Great Day were prominent as soon as the field settled down, and they led along the back from Gold Box and Panart. Polar drew to tho front and

piloted the lieu! across the top. He led into the straight ironi Gold Box, Grer.t Day .-nd I'anart, and went on to win lvliier comfortably by two lengthy from Tanart, with Gold Box third and Great Day at the head of the others.
