A CRIMINAL AT BAY.
POLICE USE GAS. (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, January 2. A dispatch states that extraordinary scenes marked the Paris police attempts to arrest Maurice Eambourd, a dangerous character, who barricaded himself in his lodgings, after shooting an inoffensive costermonger. The police demanded him to surrender, upon which Eambourd partially opened the door and fired twice, then re-closed the door. The police decided to use gas, and the -street was barricaded. Huge crowds watched the proceedings. As the first wave of gas reached him, i Eambourd shot himself dead.
