PEOPLE'S PICNIC.

HEW TEAR’S DAY.

On New Year’s Day the People’s Picnic will 'be held in the Domain, when the handsome shields donated by the citizens of Shannon will be competed for by teams of Maoris. The, shields carry with them the New Zealand .championship for haka and poi dances. As a large number of Maoris are expected tp compete, these events in themselves shonld prove a great attraction. There will be races and prizes for the children, also events for adults. > The Manawatu Pipe Band will provide music during the uay. The committee have spared no effort to eusure patrons a good day, everything poinV ,;ng to. a mo at successful gathering. As a fitting wind up to the picnic a lai.ee will be held in the Druids’ Hall .n the evening.
