A proclamation has been issued in terms of the finding of 4he Commission (presided oyer by Mr R. M. Watson, S.M.) which some months ago enquired into the control of the Hokio stream The proclamation invests the Hokio Drainage Board with the exclusive care, control, and management of portion of the Hokio stream, Horowhenua County. Towards the cost of maintenance, _ repair, improvement or reconstruction, the Horowhenua County Council has to contribute £lO annually, but that payment . will be reduced by any. amount the Council expends in the improvement of any portion of the stream betwe en the area and the sea. The drainage board is- charged tc take reasonable steps to safeguard and preserve Native fishing rights and the rights of users of the Horowhenua Lake. . The stream may not be deepened without the consent of a majority of the Native owners of adjoining property.
