SHANNON SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The usual monthly meeting to have been held last week, which had to be postponed owing to unforeseen circumstances, took place in the Schoolroom on Wednesday evening: Present: Messrs R. L. Tippler (chairman), E. Butt, J. Bowler, C. Cronquest, W. Lat-kshear, J. H. Roberts, A. Blackwood and W. Brown. Mr A. Ti White (headmaster) was also present. CORRESPONDS SfOE.

From Wellington Education Hoard stating that at its last meeting the replacement of 2£ chains of fencing recently blown down Hvas authorised. Also that an endeavour will be made to get this work done along with the larger portion. , Mr J. V. Burns notified that he intended to again donate six prizes to be awarded to the top boy and girl in Standards IV., V., and Vl.—Mr Burns was accorded a vote of thanks for his donation. The committee resolved to award prizes to the top boy and girl in Standards 1., 11., and 111. VISITING COMMITTEE'S ESPORT Last month's visiting committee, Messrs Cronquofct and Brown reported that they had found the school and grounds in a satisfactory condition. They recommended minor repairs to the infants' lavatory be carried out, also that a small quantity of metal was required in front of the girls' lavatory. HEADMASTER'S REPORT /

The headmaster, (Mr A. T White) reported the average attendance for the past five weeks to have been 33J, 337, 344, 344 and 331. The roll number was 362. He stated that the arrangements for the forthcoming school concert were well in hand and everything indicated that it would be a success. He asked whether it was intended to hold a "breaking-up function similar to that held last ••year; ; . GENERAL. It was decided that, a breaking up function take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 17th, at the school, when after a few choruses have been rendered, the presentation of the Dux medal and the prize giving will take place. An invitation will bo extended to parents to be present. ,' It was decided that -school children, who, are non-performers, be admitted free to the school concert, conditionally that they present admission tickets, which will be given to them by ttieir teacher, at the door. Those without a ticket will have to pay. The Education Board is to be' written to ijeminding them of the necessity of top-dressing the asphalted portion of the grounds during the school holidays SCHOOL PICNIC. The question of holding the annual picnic was discussed and it was decid ed to hold it at Plimmerton. Acting on the recommendationi from . the householders', meeting it was agieed to hold it during the month of February.' The date to be fixed at a later meeting. PRIZE-WINNERS.
