OBITUARY.

Sincere regret was expressed in Shannon when it became known that MiLaurence Francis McCulloch had passed away in the Palmerston Hospital on Tuesday afternoon after a brief illness. The deceased, who was the only son of Mr and Mrs McCulloch, of Levin Road, was born in Palmerston North 28 years ago and with his parents later removed to Taihape where he received his education., The deceased, who was a fine type of young manhood, was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him He was a member of the 13th, Reinforcements during the late war and saw considerable service. As a member of Lodge Mangahao he took a prominent part in matters affecting the Lodge. Most of his life he had spent in the sawmilling industry but f,or some time past he had been a member of the staff at the Power House at Mangaore. He was a married man, having been married last Easter. To his widow, parents and relatives will be extended the sineerest sympathy of a wide circle of friends in the great loss they have suffered. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, a large/ number being present at the graveside to pay their laslt respeets to one who had been held in such high esteem. The casket was covered with many floral tributes along with the Union Jack, the latter being placed over the casket by the returned soldiers, of whom a large number were present. After a short service,at the Presbyterian Church, which was, conducted by the Revs. Stewart and Fainell, the cortege, headed by members of the Masonic fraternity,' proceeded to the Shannon cemetery, where the last sad ritts at the graveside were performed by Rev. Stewart and Wor. Master Bro. ■ C. J. S. Spenceiy of Lodge Mangahao, assisted by officers of the Lodge. MRS C. E. GOODWIN. and came to New Zealand when a chfld. on Tuesday mcrning of Mrs Charlotte , Elizabeth Goodwin, wife of Mr J. G6odwin, late of Kingston road, Shannon. The deceased lady, who was in her 56th year, had only been ill a few days and , the news, of her death came as a shock to her friends.' She was born in Ireland and same to New Zealand when a child. She leaves, besides her husband, a grown-up family ( of three sons and foutdaughters, to whom the sineerest sympathy of a:wide circle of friends will be extended in their sudden bereavement. The funeral will take place at Woodville at 2.30 p.m. to-day. MR ANDREW JOHNSON. The late Mr Andrew Johnson, who passed away on Tuesday, was born in« Oslo, Sweden, and came to New Zealand 45 years ago, taking up his residence in Dannevirke. He had been a resident of Shannon for the past eleven years. His wife predeceased hinj in 1918. He leaves five sons and two daughters to mourn their loss, namely, Mr Jack Johnson (Plimmerton), Mr F.. Johnson (Waikanae), Mr Leonard Johnson (Tauranga), Messrs Charles and Alfred Johnson (Shannon), Mrs S. Pedeisen and Miss Elsie Johnson (Shannon).* ' -
