SATUEDAY'S PLAY. LEVIN DEFEAT WERAROA. With a comfortable margin of 88 rtrns to spare on Saturday, Levin vindicated their previous defeat at the hands of Weraroa, who could only muster the total of 66, whereas the l%eal men replied with 154. Winning the toss, O'Connor elected to bat and took Warren in with him to open the innings against the attack of Phillips and Bennett. They both shaped confidently, but found it difficult to get past the fieldsmen, who were ever on the- alert. Then, just as O'Connor 7 looked like settling down, he placed the ball into the hands of Varnham at point, and the catch was accepted. Hall filled the vacancy, and quickly : ran into double figures, only to edge a ball from Bennett that swung away to the off, into Martin's hands. Bull adopted safety tactics' until he met with a similar fate to Hell, giving Martin his second catch off the same b&wler. « Warren had batted patiently up to this stage, and was holding his end up well, but H. McDonald relieved Bennett and the change had the desired result, McDonald's third ball dislodging his, middle sjturiip. Field, who had taken up the attack from Phillips at the opposite end, quickly disposed of the remaining batsmen, who did not put up anything like a stand. , Martin had a day put behind the stumps,' having no byes registered against him, while he accepted no less then four catches; in fact, Levin's fielding, with one or two exceptions, was rtally good. Levin fared much better on taking strike, despite Phillips falling an earlv victim to a.fine catch by Leger at deepleg off a loose ball by Wallace. Moodij was clean bowled by R. McDonald after reaching double figures, but theiji Martin and Bennett took the score from 2 for 26 to 3 for 85, when Bennett was, snapped'up at' point by .<France after Compiling 28. Martin, witli the assistance of Taylor continued merrily, but when his half century appeared in sight, he was neat-" ly taken by O'Connor off Wallace. Field and Hudson had a short but lively stay at the wickets, and the remainder were soon out, Mr "Extras"! whelping the total with 25 to his credit. Following arc the details: —-j WERAROA. :' !
