The Port .Chalmers councillors and their Mayor are still at loggerheads over the alteration of a minute. Tho councillors say the alteration was unauthorised, and the Mayor states that they were all agreeable to it excepting one councillor, who was not present. There was another exciting council meeting on Wednesday night when the eight councillors who had voted against the Mayor at, a previous meeting were present. The two councillors who had previously supported him were absent and consequently the Mayor was singlehanded in a clash of assertions which clearly showed that the councillors considered his position was weaker than theirs. Hostilities were suspended at an earlier hour than at the previous meeting, but peace is said to be still far off—as far as the next municipal elections perhaps.
