MANSON BARR CUP. WON BY SHANNON. t A rink consisting of Messrs T. Moynihan, T. Watterston, C. Jones and E. Spencer (skip) journeyed to Eketahuna on Wednesday to play the holders of the Manson and Barr Cup, and much to the delight of local bowlers, were successful in being able to bring back the coveted trophy. The weather was wet and cold, rain falling practically right throughout the game and it was not until the 19th head that the weather cleared. It was necessary for the players to wear their overcoats while playing, one of the returned players stating the conditions were “liketrying to play bowls in midwinter. ’ Shannon made a bad start, being 8 down on the 6tli head. They opened their account by scoring one on each of the three succeeding heads; the next two heads of one each going to Eketahuna. The 11th head was Shannon’s with 2, Eketahuna replying on the next head witli a two, the next, was Shannon’s with one up. The 14th head was a dead measu/e, and after two pairs of calipers were used and half a dozen players had given their decision, it was decided to throw the head out.. On resuming after afternoon tea, saw the turning point in the game in Shannon’s favour, when they registered a foui\ Eketahuna replied with a one, the next was Shannon’s for two. The next two heads each rink got one. The 19tli head saw Shannon with a one, draw ’evel with the home rink, this being the first time they had reached Eketahuna’s score. The two final heads were Shanon’s with a one and a two —ar 1 saw them winners after an uphill fi ht by 17 to 14.

They are to be complimented on tlieir victory and it will be the wish of all that they will successfully defend the trophy in the future. A special word of praise is also due to the Selection Committee, Messrs Clayton, Gagliardi and Knowles, for their judgment in selection of the rink. ,
