SHANNON CHORAL SOCIETY.

THE ANNUAL MEETING.

Tho annual meeting of the above Society wag held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday last when there was a. large attendance of members. The president .(Mr A. H. Morgan) occupied the chair. The secretary reported that the net, profit resulting from the last concert was £6 6s 6d, it being the most successful one given by the Society. The ballancc sheet and profit and loss account were placed before the meeting, there being shown a small deficit on the year’s activities.

The President congratulated the Society on its endeavours during the year and pointed out that'the financial position was fairly satisfactory considering the fact that the Society had been, faced with the expense of purchasing an extension to and seating accommodation for the stage. As a means of raising reserve funds for the coming year it was decided to circularise residents of the town with a view to obtaining hon. members at a fee of 10s fid each, such membership entitling them to ’receive two tickets for each concert giveh by the Society duiing the year. The election of office bearers resulted as follows: — 1 President.—Mr A. H. Morgan. Vice-president. —Mr J. Aim. Hon.- Conductor.—Mr; Howard ' Andrew. ' Hon. Pianist. —Mrs Clifford Jones. Hon. Librarian. —Miss G. Jones. 1-lon. Secretaiy.—Mr E. T. Moody. • Committee.—Mesdames Barber, Jones, Cronquest, Morgan and Miss tjuarrie, Mr Oweu, Mr Kennedy, Mr Hibell. It-was decided that subscriptions be the same as last, year, namely 2/6 per member. .After a general discussion the meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair after which supper was partaken of. CONCERT AT MANGAHAO. The members of the Shannon Choral Society visited Mangakao oh Wednes- , day, the Ist inst., and gave a concert there. Many of the members journeyed up in the afternoon and took advantage of the opportunity l of inspecting the works under the guidance of . their hosts. The members were loud in their praise of the hospitality extended to them. Some of the items were those given at the last Choral concert, together with a few of the old favourites. The choir was again augmented by members of the Levin and Palmerston North Choral Societies. Solos were rendered by Miss N. Killick; Miss A. Airily Mrs C. Croiiquest, Mr S. Kingston, Mr Gronque-t, and Mr Howard Andrew, a^id -illocutionary items by Miss L. Hancock. Encores were numerous and that the concert was enjoyed by all was shown by the applause given to each item. After supper the floor was cleared for dancing, which continued until the early hours of the morning.
