PRODUCTION OF BUTTERFAT
INCREASE ON LAST YEAR. i The favourite nature of the season for dairying is reflected in the fortnightly returns of produce handled by the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company. From July 1 until last Wednesday 539,545 boxes of butter and 44,195 crates of cheese have been received, compared with 477,407 boxes and 40,972 crates for the corresponding period of' last year. Tho increase arc 62,138 boxes of butter and 3223 crates of cheese. The figures are more striking when they are reduced to their butter-fat equivalent. The season’s production from July 1 up to last Wednesday amounts to no less than 25,010,315 11). of butter-fat, compared with 24,896,4491 b for the corresponding period of 1925, an increase of 3,113,S66lb. Of this season’s total 25,358,6151 bof butter-fat lias been used in the manufacture 6f butter compared with 22,438,1291 b last year. Cheese manufactured absorbed 2,651,7001 b. this year and 2,458,3201 b last year. Butter received into store during the fortnight from November 3 to 17 totalled 117,490 boxes, compared with 107,162 boxes in the corresponding fortnight of 1925. The cheese receipts in the same periods were 11,177 crates and 9778 crates respectively. On hand on Wednesday were 94,340 boxes of butter and 7520 crates of cheese. On the same date of last year, when the effect of the seamen’s strike was being felt, there were in store 139,930 boxes of butter and 26,728 crates of cheese.
