RUSSIAN MACHINERY
: « , Vladimir Kuybusheff, who succeeded M. Dzerzhinsky as head of the RusI sian Supreme Economic Council, warned all the Russian trusts, syndicates and other industries recently that the country's mechanical equipment is nearing exhaustion," bringing : a serious threat to the national economy. I Insisting that in the absence of new machinery from abroad drastic steps must be taiken to conserve the present dilapidated equipment, he said the ever-increasing cost of production, j which was assuming menacing pro- ; portions, must be combated with the utmost energy. x , "This increase in the cost of, production," he continued, "is due largely to irrational economy, fall in labour discipline, lack of proper organisation in the entire realm of indusl and feeble execution of the cam- ' paign of economy. I "The Government demands are for far more radical lowering of the cost i of production and overhead expenses' | than has heretofore been achieved. We j must conduct an. unrelenting struggle I against laziness, indifference and lax I management, and must • raise the qualifications of our workers and technical staffs."
