LOW YIELD AND POOR PRICES. & . . Pukekohe- November 3. The position ofi the market is causing growers of early potatoes coheeru. Fears are entertained of a bade time ahead . unless an improvement takes place soon. The prices are fully £7 below those ruling at a similar period last year, while the yield is low, due to an abnormally Avot season and the absence- of sunshine. Appearance leads one to conclude that the yield is heavy, but growth went to .the tops and the tubers arc small. and’light. The demand yesterday and to-day Avas greater than the supply, on account of boisterous weather prcA-enting digging operations. ' The low price is attributed to the fact that consumers prefer gdod quality Southern at a-cheap price to: dear new potatoes, also to the' scarcity of money generally. ■ A much larger area is under potatoes than usual. . Onions are growing vigorously and look healthy;
