A case recently came under notice of a Wanganui resident in which a small farmer outside Waverley advertised several times for the services of a married couple at a weekly remuneration of £2 10s and found. He eventually received two aspirants. The first rang him up and stated that he was in great distress and would be grateful if he could get the position. The farmer replied that he was willing to take the. couple, who, however, on ascertaining that the location of the farm was about live miles outside Waverley, rejected the position on the excuse that it was too far from the township. The second couple also said they were very anxious to get the position, as they were very "hard up." In this instance, though, the fact that the woman would be required to do the washing was "too much," as she hat ''never done any.''
