SHANNON SCHOOL COMMITTEE
MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Shannon School Committee was held in the •Schoolroom on Wednesday evening. Present: Messrs R. L. Tippler (chairman), A. Blackwood, E. Butt, W. Lankshear, C, Cronquest, W. Brown, J. Roberts (secretary), and A. T. White (headTTI *1 St Cl* / • Specifications were received from the Board for the erection of a new boundary fence, on road around the schoolmaster's residence. —On the motion of Mr Blackwood it was 1 decided to write tb the Board acknowledging receipt of the specifications, also pointing out that it was likely some parson in the township could carry out the work. Also to enquire what piovision has been made for the re-erection of fence across schoolground and the small and large gates. A letter was received from the Board stating that the contractor for the asphalting had agreed to do the work of repairing during the school holidays'. The visiting committee, Messrs E. Butt and Bowler, reported that so far j as the building ivas concerned they had found everything satisfactory. They stated the drainage in the playing area was not good, as storm water was unable to get away. They recommended that an open concrete drain be cut to carry the water to the main drain ; also rhat a concrete, cricket pitch be put down Avhen the boys playing area has j been ploughed. They reported that the cement has not yet been put down around" the incinerator. —The chairman stated that the question of dealing with storm water on the playing area would be attended to when the ploughing is carried out.
The chairman and secretary were appointed to arrange for ploughing, levelling and sowing down the football and cricket ground.
'lt was resolved that a letter of thanks-be forwarded to Mr C. C. Franks for his donation of planks for the seesaws, and for carting the boulders tithe school.
A vote of thanks was accorded Mr W. Brown for erecting the seesaws 1 . The headmaster (Mr White) reported that the teachers have definitely arranged on-a tentative programme for a school concert to be held at the end of the work is now going on and quite"~a good programme will be presented. , The attendance for the past four weeks was 308, 319, 331 and 327. Mr White stated the recent bad wt-ather and sickness was largely responsible for ihc low attendance, which in the ordinary course should have averaged 334. The number on the roll is 364.
