ASSAULT ON ENGINEER.

WIRELESS OPERATOR FINED. AUCKLAND, Oct. 28. At the Police Court this morning Al|lan Wallbank Hooper, aged 27, wireless operator on the steamer Erriba, was charged with having assaulted the Chief Engineer by biting his fingers. Accused's story was that he had had trouble previously with the Chief Engineer and the Third Engineer, and went to make friends with the former, who mistook his advauces and seized him by the tie, nearly throttling him aud that he had to bite to get released. The Magistrate, Mr E. C. Cutten, didn't think Hooper's methods of making friends would be appreciated by anyone and fined him 20s land costs.
