WOMEN PREFER DARK MEN

WHAT BEAUTY CONTEST SHOWS. NOVEL, COMPETITION HELD AT FOLKSTONE. ■ ) LONDON, August ,14. Nearly forty men, young and old, stout and slim, tall and short, presented . themselves before a critical crowd on Folkestone Pier to-day in the annual beauty show for men. The question, Are Men Beautiful? has been agitating the town for a week, and the answer was supplied to-day, for among the competitors, who represented all types of manhood, there were several with remarkable fine and handsome features. Youth was strongly represented, and a number did their best to imitate Rudolph Valentino. Women Prefer* Hark Men. Thei'e were, others who had weathered the storm of life. One was bald, and he replied on his fine stature and sunny smile, while another boasted nearly seventy years and wonderful grey hair and unlined face. Two local seafaring men with rugged beards and bronzed features also tried. The ordeal of walking down the Joy Bridge under the spotlights proved almost too great for some, put others never flinched a hair. Women evidently prefer brunettes, for the first prize was awarded to Jack Dwyer, Ladbroke Square, Kensington, a member of the “Little Nelly Kelly” Company, playing at Folkestone, age twenty-four, a perfect type of British manhood, with a well-moulded face and dark hair inclined to be curly. James Adams, Northfield Road, Ponders End, Enfield, clerk, age thirty-five, second, had dark hair and distinctive features. The third, Henry George Dodd, High Street, Dartford, aged twenty-one, Local Government clerk, had a mass of light curly hair.
