CRICKET.

With a view to re-forming the defunct Shannon Cricket Club, a meeting of cricket enthusiasts was held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening. Mr G. Hemmingsen being elected to the chair.

In opening the discussion the chairman pointed out that the draw back to reforming the Club wqs the want of a pitch. The pitch on the Domain had 'been taken up just prior to last season’s play commencing with the result that the Club were unable to take pan in the competitions' and the Club had become defunct. He anticipated no difficulty in reforming the Club providing they could get a pitch. He suggested that a deputation wait on the Borough Council with a request that they provide them with a pitch at the Domain for the coming season. Mr Bishop said that if they were successful in getting a pitch, a further meeting could be called immediately and the Club re-formed. He asked for names of those in the. room who intended to join up, and ten signified their intention to become members, the names of several who were not present, also being mentioned. It was pointed out by Mr Morgan that the question of raising finance to replenish playing gear would have to be gone into.

It was resolved., that a deputation comprising Messrs Heimningsen. Bishop, Newth and Crawford wait on the Borough Council at their meeting on Tuesday evening with a request that the Council assist them to put down a concrete cricket pitch at the Domain, the Council to provide the material and the deputation to find the labour. As the Horowhenua Cricket Association meet on Monday night, it was decided to write them notifying that Shannon will enter a team, providing their request for a pitch is .granted, by the 'Borough Council. It was also decided to ask that all their matches in the first round, if they take part be played away from home, as the pitch would not be - suitable for playing ou for a few weeks. It was decided to meet again next Wednesday evening when everything will be definitely decided in regards to reforming the. Club.
