FLOOD WATER SLOWLY RECEDING
FOXTON ROAD NOT YET CLEAR. The movement of water from theroad approaches to the Wirokino bridge is still very slow and, varying depths of water—from 12 inches to 2 feet—confront the motorist attempting a passage over the water-logged road. Practically speaking, the Buckley district is almost free of water that would be likely to affect the situation, but the outlet from the Moutoa region allows the water to disperse only at a comparatively slow rate, otherwise the road might now be available for traffic. As it is, the possibilities are that the road will not be absolutely free until Monday, although a fairly safe crossing on Sunday would be possible to the more experienced motorists.
All the service cars bound for Wanganui are travelling by way of the Levin-Sliannon-Palmerston route, and mails from Foxton to Wellington and the South Island are still being conveyed by rail through Palmerston North. The Foxton , motor service continues to run according to schedule.
