A tlieft of a substantial sum of money amounting to over £SO was discovered on Thursday morning by the authorities of the Hnwera Club (says the Star). The police have the matte? in hand, and it is understood that a warrant lias been issued for an arrest.
"The past season has proved a disastrous one to apple growers of the Dominion,'' .stated an orehardist to . a "Grcytown Standard" reporter. He mentioned that quite a big consignment of the apples exported to Englaud did not realise more than 6s per case, which was insufficient to meet freight, and other charges, while there had been a pronounced glut on the Auckland market.
Mr. T. Oates, of Wellington, has pre- j sented a cup, valued at £6, to the Otaki Motor Club, for the rider of an English machine obtaining fastest time in the Club's lilue ribbon race, the cup to be held by the rider, for one year, and if won three times in succession to become his own property. This makes two handsome cups for this race and therefore competition should be very keen. Mr. Oates has alse kindly offered to present a medal.
