THE NEW OMAR.
CATERPILLAR AND BUTTERFLY. DELHI, Oct. 7 Karachi reports state that widespread interest has been excited by the Omar Khayyam manuscrijpt discovery. Translations have been made by a prominent Indian Civil Servant and another official, aided by a Sind Persian scholar, following closely Edward Fitzerald's admirable works. Twelve quatrains thus far translated are typical of those in the Rubaiyat, as may be gauged by the following lines: See, where the grub of passion dies, The caterpillar heaves its reasonsighs; Then cedes the torch to butterflies that vtew The world in splendour from experienced eyes.
