MARKETING Of WOOL.
CONTROL BOARD NOT ADVISABLE ,SAYS THE MINISTER. WELLINGTON, October 4. With reference to. -a deputation from the Dominion Conference of the Farmers’ Union which waited on him on August 6th for the purpose of making- representations as to the necessity of establishing a wool control hoard for New Zealand, thej Minister replies that he has gone carefully into the matter, from all points of view and. as a result is not at all satisfied that it will be in the interests of wool growers to establish such a board. The conditions under which wool is marketed differ to a -marked degree from those existing in meat and dairy produce," one most important feature being that a very large proportion of the wool is soid in the Dominion, each individual grower thus having the opportunity of seeing his wool sold and accepting the price offered or <■ withdrawing it. While appreciating the fact that it is- desirable to. do everything possible to further the legitimate interests of wool-growers, lie Minister is of opinion that tho Union should further examine the whole position, particularly the point of view of what actual difficulties or disabilities exist at the present time in connection with wool marketing and whether the establishment of a hoard is necessary to overcome them.
