KOPUTAROA FLOOD GATE.
f —— MEETING OF RATEPAYERS. A well represented meeting of ratepayers of Koputuivoa and Buckley was held in the Council Chambers on Saturday afternoon to discuss the position of the Koputaroa floodgate, which was washed out and damaged by the big flood in July last. The floodgate is under the control of the Hlorowhenua County Council and much indignation was expressed by those present at • the neglect of the Council in not repairing the- gate, although several weeks have passed since the damage occurred. It was stated that the district liad suffered two floods 1 on account of the gate beinn- washed out, and should the Manawalu river rise to even a small river flood, the whole district would again 1 be inundated, and thus cause i great damage, as the spring growth will be ruined. ■ it At a recent meeting of the HorowJienua County Council, that body resolved to expend an estimated sum of £75 in repairing and extending floodgate, provided the’ Board would on completion of the work be agreeable to take over the future control, upkeep arid management .of the floodgate. However, as the Buckley Drainage Board have received no information as to the proposed em larged Buckley Drainage District being gazetted, the trustees are not agreeable at the present juncture to take over fthe floodgate from tpa Council. ~ , . The matter was fully discussed by the meeting, it being .resolved that the Horowhenua County Council be asked to immediately Repair the damage.’ ,
