PARSONS' WIVES
I hymn the praises o:' the parson's _ wife. The grace cC orders she lacks, but all other graces are her'a to repletion. Who shall enumerate her manifold activities? If her husband is capable, she strengthens his hand; if incapable, she strengthens his head. When money is wanted for parochial con'cerns, the parson's wife makes her white magic, and it comes. In swift hope she raises it; in strong faith she spends it. being confident that she will be able to find plenty more when a new need arises. And to all her public responsibilities she adds a heavier burden of private cares. With* a house that grows no smaller, she*' is more than ever a woman of her hands. Two shining facts remain to be recorded in her honour. The first, that she continues to be an unpaid worker: the second that she has never gone on strike. A general strike of parsons' wives would quickly bring the church to sue for mercy.
