KOPUTAROA FLOOD GATE.
*__ REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE. The Works Committee of the Horowhenua County Council reported to the Council on Saturday as follows: "Further to. a conference between Crs. Barber and Kite'by of this Council and the Buckley Drainage Board, and in view of representations as to the urgency of the position, the action of your Committee in communicating with the Buckley Drainnage Board as follows is submitted for confirmation .—The Clerk was directed to inform the Buckley Drainage Board that this Council are prepared to expend an estimated sum of £75 in repairing and extending the wingwalls of the Koputaroa Flood-gate provided the Board will on completion of the work be agreeable to take over the future control, upkeep and management of the flood-gate. The Buckley Drainage Board advised that no information had been received as to the proposed enlarged 'Buckley Drainage District being gazetted. The trustees could not, therefore, agree at present to take oyer the Koputaroa flood-gate, but when such notification had been received they would be prepared to take over the responsibility of the maintenance of this flood gate,.after the work had been carried out in accordance with the agreement between the Buckley Drainage Board and the County Engineer. The Board would be pleased if the Council would expedite matters in regard to the agreement. The County Engineer reported as follows: "During- the recent heavy flood the southern wing of the Koputaroa flood gate was damaged and a certain amount .of aroaioir took place era. Barber and Kilsby and myself met members of the Buckley Drainage Board and others interested and discussed the question ot repairs. It will be necessary to repair and extend the present wing at a C °On Cr. Barber's motion, seconded by Cr. Kilsby, it was decided to m- , form the Buckley Drainage Board, In reply to their letter, that cil will expend the repairs to the flood-gate, sublet to the conditions and terms of the County Clerk's letter of «the tthmst. being'agreed to and that they be informed that the Board have power Sea Section 2a of the Land Draan- ; age Act, 1903, to take over control S maintenance, though the area was not in their district.
