Mr Neville asked that the' third grade players should be classified before the close of this season, so as to have a number transferred to junior grade football. In Foxton there were a number of thirds who should be playing in junior:teams and their re-classification would result in raising the standard of football throughout the Horowhenua. It was decided to leave the matter i in the hands of delegates. SATURDAY'S BIG RUGBY EVENT. WELLINGTON SENDING UP STRONGTEAM. WELLINGTON; Last Night. In view of the fact that Manawhenua has an unbeaten record this year, Wellington is taking no risks on Saturday next and has chosen a strong all-round combinatidn to carry its colours. The following team has been chosen:—

Mulheroii Jowett Grenfell Bodell Cowdell Foley Bramwell Wing-forward: Jessup Barry Warden Pickering Barry Young Taylor Thomas ' Emergencies:—Back, Tilyard; forward, Sly. Tile secretary of the Wellington Rugby Union (Mr Neilsen) advises that the team is the strongest which the Empire City can get away. The Nicholls brothers have retired from football and Porter is still suffering from injuries, while Svenson is not available. Eleven of the team played against Auckland, and six against Hawkes Bay. The fact that Tilyard : (an All Black) and Sly (the ex-JVlana-watu crack) can, only get as far as emergency rank is .some indication of the strength of the combination. Manawatu supporters will watch with interest the appearance of Bramwell behind the scrum, as he is an old Feilding and Palmerston player. I-liis game against Auckland was something to be remembered. Wellington has selected Mr E. Bevan, of Levin, as referee.

LABELLING THE RUGBY TEAM. "MANAWJHENUA" OR "MANA-v^ATU-HOROWHENUA.'» Some members of the controlling body of Rugby football in the combined districts of Manawatu and Horowhenua, are in a quandary as to what to call the team, and incidentally the Union. When the amalgamation took place, it was agreed that the title should be the Manawatu-Horowhenua Rugby Union, and the two bodies concerned wore automatically termed Councils. As one member of the Union pointed out, the two words were "quite a mouthful" for even the mpst ardent supporter to yell in his encouragement, and so they had taken any word that

suited. It was pointed out that some papers, in reporting the games of the recent combined team's tour, called the team Manawatu,' Horowhenua, and Manawhenua; none labelled it by the hyphenated name. Discussion then turned to where the title "Manawhenua" had been coined, and the discovery was made that a "Times" football scribe had bee*.innocently the cause of the trouble. It was 'pointed out that "Manawhenua" was coined by taking'the first part of the northern district and the tail end of the southern area, and the combination certainly "flowed" easily from the mouth. Further' discussion ensued, and after rejecting a v suggestion that the name "Tararuas" be used, it was decided that the name of the Union be registered as the Manawatu-Horowhenua Union, but the representative teams be labelled "Manawhenua."—Palmerston Times.
