PUBLICAN'S SUCCESSFUL APPEAL.
JUDGMENT WITHOUT!' COSTS. WELLINGTON, Sept. 6. Mr Justice MacGregor ruled in favour of the' licensee in an appeal case, James McParland, licensee iof the Hotel Cecil against a conviction by Mr E. Page, S.M., of permitting drunkenness on 'licensed premises. No costs were allowed, hie Honour considering the case was on the border line and the police were justified in laying the information. The licensee was not, present at the time She barman ordered the man off. The bar was crowded and the barman did not see whether the man actually (left or not, (but said he thought the man did go.
