FLOOD WATER CONTROL.

MANAWATU-OROUA SCHEME. The (Shannon Boxougli Council having' been cited ais a party to the Mana-watu-Oroua River Board’s scheme to deal with the Manawatu river, in connection with which the Commission is now taking evidence, a special meeting of the Council was held on Friday evening to appoint a delegate to represent the 'Shannon Borough at the sitting of the Commission. Present: The 'Mayor (Mr E. Butt) and Cm Hook, Thwaites, Spencer and Riciiardson. A letter was received from, the secretary of the Board which stated thatthe following are the heads under which the Manawatu-Oroua River Board contend the Shannon Borough Council should be cited 'as a contributor to tire cost of the proposed expenditure on the improvement of the Manawatu river:—(l) Improvement of communication; (2) increased popular tion and increased spending,power of population of the farming community; 1 3) the expenditure locally of a very Large sum of money in reproductive work. Tile Town Clerk (Mr .1. T. Boris) was appointed to .represent the Council, and on tire motion of Gr. Spencer, seconded by Cr. Towaites, he was instructed to report to the Commission that none of the above headings will have any bearing on the Shannon Borough, and that' t-lie Council object to being cited as a party.
