MANAWATU RIVER DIVERSION SCHEME.
+ : COMMISSION SITTING IN PALMERSTON. THIRTEEN LOCAL BODIES CITED. PALMERSTON N., August 30. The Commission set up in connection with the Mamaw a tu-Or ou a River Board’s £450,000 flood control scheme ■ commenced its deliberations this morning. The .chairman is Mir Watson, S.M. (Feilding), and the two other members of the Commission are Mr Koch, civil engineer (Auckland), ap.d Mr H. Leighton, land agent (Wellington). Briefly, the duties of the Commission are to decide the following points: (1) As to whether the thirteen local bodies cited or any of them should contribute any sum at all to the scheme put forward by the Mana-watu-Oroua River Board for protection from flooding, and if so what is a fair proportion; (2) whether the Makerua Drainage Board is entitled to any and if so what allowance for the expenditure it has already been put to in guarding its area against flooding; (3) whether the State should find ay amount by way of subsidy to assist in the execution of the scheme. 1 It is expected the sitting will extend over several days, while the Board will also inspect the area concerned.
