WHEN THE CAR STOPS.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR. The manner in which an engines stops is often a good indication oi tire cause of the trouble. If fhe engine stops suddenly, this suggests the complete cutting off of the benzine supply, or some kind of ignition trouble. Here are a few reasons that nave stopped me at various times:— No benzine in the tank (often). Benzine supply cut off, clogged. Jet in carburetter closed, with a hit of grit, wool, or a cjrop of water. Magneto wet, or a wire off. Broken magneto wire, or toe wire touching on a bare place. Pistons seized for want of oil. Seized main bearings (rare). Flywheel wedged with a piece of metal. A broken crankshaft or axle. When the engine stops suddenly, make a thorough examination of the benzine supply and pipes first, then try out the cranking of the engine to seq if it has seized. If it is very hard to turn, examine the oil in the' sump very carefully, and look to the water in. the radiator. If the engine starts, aAd after trying the, gears if it refuses to move then it is an axle or some .shaft broken or a gear or key stripped. In which case all the swearing invented won’t help you. .
