Owing to the infantile paralysis epi- , demic and later the Domain under-o-oing improvements, it was not- possible to hold a sports meeting for two years. Early this year a ineeing was called and it was resolved ton again organise, the result was the most successful gathering in the history of the Club. The financial membership of tiie club, viz., 169, speaks w T ell for the keen interest taken in athletic sports locally. As you will notice by the balance sheet, the club commenced the year with a credit balance of £6 3s Bd. After Paymg out £59 for prizes and over £'JJ ior labour on the Domain, a credit balance of £36 12s lOd remains to continue this year’s operations. The cycling track which was laid down by the club— ay it h voluntary labour—would have otherwise cost m the vicinity of £250, and will always be a lasting monument to the energy and interest of club (members and all others who so willingly assisted. It now remains for the track to be asphalted and this will have to be considered at once. The question of holding evening sports, and another sports meeting before the end of this year will I hope be favourably considered. A request was made to the Borough Council to have the pavilion removed to a more suitable position. If the club members are prepared to remove' the bricks from the chimney, the Councif will carry out the rest of the work. As you all know, our treasurer, Dr. Mackereth, is at present indisposed, and I am sure you will all join with me in wishing him a speedy recovery. Thanks is due ail who gave donations aiicl rendered 'assistance to the club in other forms. I AVish to thank my committee and members, wliot have worked .so hard in the interest of the club and sport and to whose exertions the club owes so much of its success. Your co-operation and help has made my term of office a pleasure and I \ feel highly honoured to be associated with such a. splendid committee. Harmonious working is the secret of success. This we had in the past and I, feel sure it will continue in the future. I did not wish to refer to any individual worker in the club, all having carried their equal share; but I feel I would not be doing my duty if I did not make reference to the good work of Mr J. Curran, organiser of the cycling track work and our secretary M F. Kohika, with
his assistant, Mr Birchall. In conclusion I thank all far Their comradeship and loyalty to the club, and I am sure you will maintain and even increase ,the standard of athletic sports in this town.—Adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
