His victim is to be an anonymous editorial writer on the Chicago Tribune. ' “Why didn’t someone quietly drown Valentino .years ago?” asks this writer, who concludes with, “Rudy, the beautiful gardener’s boy, prototype of the American male,” and refers scathingly to the new powdervending machine for men’s washroom in hotels that Valentino’s company is selling., In his reply Rudolpli calls it “a scurrilous personal attack upon . me, my face, and my father’s name. “I propose that this test of honour be in private, so that I can give you the beating you deserve,’’ concludes Valentino, who promises to come to Chicago within ten days to keep the appointment.
