OBITUARY.
♦ MR RICHARD T. BUTT. The death occurred on Friday last of Mr Richard Tdiom-as Butt, a wellknown and much respected resident of Levin, in his 68tli year. Deceased was horn in Lyttelton, and was the son of the late Captain Butt, formerly a coastal pilot in New Zealand waters. Some 57 years ago Mr Richard Butt left Lyttelton for Wellington, where he lived for a number of years, eventually moving on to Pahautanui, where he was married. After a ten years’ residence at thq latter place he went to Shannon, being a foundation member of the Shannon community at the time when the district was in an absolutely undeveloped state. After working for .some years in the butchery business conducted by his brother-in-law, Mr James Gardner, he left Shannon and came south to Levin, where lie was similarly engaged for some nine years. He then went farming in Arapaepae Road, up to the time of hi,s wife’s death in VMS. Since that time his health had been very indifferent and during the past three years he was almost- a complete invalid. Wherever he lived the late Mr Butt made many friends who will hear with deep sorrow of his passing away. Two daughters, Mrs H. Noble, of Woodville, and Mrs H. Murray, Kevin, and two sons, Messrs S. and R. Butt, of Levin, survive him, whilst his remaining brothers and sisters are Messrs Edwin Butt (Mayor of Shannon), H. Butt (Shannon), G. and W. Butt (Wellington), and Mrs F. Kirtland (Wellington). The utmost, sympathy will be accorded tlie family in the' loss of one who was a worthy ciiizen in every sense of the word.
