SHANNON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING. The above meeting was held in the Schoolroom on Wednesday evening. .Present: Messrs R. L. Tippler (chairman) -and Watkins, Brown, Butt, Bowler, Lankshear and Blackwood. It. was decided to erect an incinerator at the school and that tenders be advertised for same. Mr Tippler stated that the digging for Arbor Day had. been completed. The Headmaster explained the working of the supply of hot- drinks, which he stated was paying for itself. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr and Mrs White for. dispensing the drinks. In regard to the conveyance of children to and from school Mr White informed the meeting that some parents on. the Kingston route would rather pay .Messrs Hiotchen and Watts to take their children to Makerua, rather than pajr the Shannon bus driver. On the motion of Mr Brown, seconded by Mr Blackwood, it was resolved that a protest be made to the Board regarding the cutting down of the Mangaore run, when the major ity of the children at the village are eligible for the three mile trip. It. was resolved that a meeting .diet called alternately at Kingston and Buckley to confer with parents re the bus service. The following committee were appointed to visit Kingston road on Tuesday; Messrs R. 'L. Tippler, White,! Blackwood, Roberts and Lankshear, and the following will visit Buckley on Thursday: Messrs R. L, Tippler, White, Watkins, Bowler, and Lankshear. . : The visiting'committee Messrs Butt and Bowler reported striking an unfortunate day, owing to rain,, for their inspection. They reported the boys’ shelter shed as being too small and lacked seating accommodation, also more seats* were required round the school. The drill area was breaking up and generally was very unsatisfactory. Mr White enlarged on above and explained why and where the seats were required.—lt was resolved that the Board be written to with reference to enlargement-'of the boys’ shelter shed and that they be asked for 100 feet lineal 10 x 2 with necessary Scantling for seating.

On Mr Blackwood’s motion it was decided that the school have part of a day set aside for tree-planting to commence at 1.30 p.m. on the 14t-h July. Also that 'Mr Newport be .invited to attend the school and supervise tree planting.

The headmaster informed the meeting that the Board had forwarded to the school a photo of the late Mr Massey, which is being framed. The headmaster reported that the atendance for the past five weeks was 342, 337, 340, 334, 324. The average for last quarter was .329, the number on roll being 353.
