SALE OF STUD JERSEYS.

A LARGE ATTENDANCE.

The whole of Mr J. R, McDonald's well-known "Rosebury" Jersey stud was offered for sale at his farm yesterday. This choicely bred herd consisted of several heavy producing cows, show prize-winners and recerd testers and the fact that the majority of the stock embodied famous Jersey strains, was to a certain extent re r sponsible for the interest taken in the event. Some 200 people or more were present, including buyers from as far north' as Taumarunui and Taanaki and extending southwards as Ifar as Oamaru. Practically the whole offering was disposed of at remarkably good figures, the bidding being

keen throughout. The two champion cows, "Holly Oak Gontessa" and "Jersey Lea. Diana" were subjected to a slight reserve, and did not change hands. Of the U cows catalogued,' three which had met with accidents were withdrawn, and of the remainder 32 averaged 31gns., while the whole of the in-calf heifers, 1? in number, were all disposed of under the hammer for an average of 26gns. The heifer calves, which were rather backward in condition, sold at prices ranging up 1o 20 and 21gns. The young bulls by Holly Oak Trombone, were keenly competed far, making up to 32-J-gns. .
