10,000 NORTH 'ISLAND EWES AT
ADDINGTON

A feature of the Addington market to-day was the heavy entry of ewes from the North Island .approximately ro.ooo head. The bulk of them were very low-conditioned and sold accordingly. The fat cattle market was irregular, but on the average little (different from that of last week, and the fat sheep section met with a brisk demand over the final stages. Store sheep.—For condition . and general < quality the entry was the worst of the year, and it was the largest for a mid-winter for many years. North Island ewes found buyers at substantially lower values than recently. Good local ewes sold briskly and hoggets also sold at late rates, but wethers were weaker. Good four and six-tooth Romnoy cross ewes sold for 33/9; sound-mouthed crossbred ewes 22/- to 26/-; low conditioned and inferior crossbred soundmouthed ewes 17/- to 20/-; failingmouthed crossbred ewes, 14/6 to 18/-; failing-mouthed halfbred ewes, 20/6 to 27/-; good sound and failingmouthed ewes, 26/- to 29/-; failingmouthed Merino ewes, 21/-; small two-toothed crossbred ewes, 22/- to 26/6; crossbred ewe hoggets 24/6 to 27/11; halfbred wether hoggets 207to 21/6; small halfbred wether-hog-gets 17/- to 18/9; crossbred wether hoggets .19/- to 22/-; four and six toothed wethers 24/- to 26/6; two and four-toothed wethers 20/6 to 24/9.
Fat lambs comprised an end of the season entry of only 600 head, and met with a sale at late rates. Fat sheep.—A heavy entry of 13 races, a few less thari last week. Exporters bid more spiritedly than at the last sale, and though the market was weaker at the commencement, it concluded equally as firm as last • week. Extra prime wethers made to 37/1; prime wethers 31/- to 34/-; j medium wethers 28/6 to 30/6; light wethers 24/9 to 27/-; extra prime ewes to 34/10; prime ewes 22/- to 25/:; medium ewes 19/- to 21/9; light ewes 16/- to 18/6; aged ewes 12/- to 15/6. Fat cattle. —500 head were yarded, A fair number of cows were included in the sale, which was up to' last, week for good beef, but easier for other stuff. Best medium weight beef made from 37/6 to 40/-;- heavyweight 35/6 to 37/6; medium 34/- to 35/-; fair cow beef 30/- to 34/-; inferior 24/- to 28/-; and rough, down to 2.1/-. Extra heavy steers fetched to £l9 2/6; prime heavy steers £ls 10/- to £l7 15/-T prime medium weight £l3 15/- to £ls 15/-; medium quality £lO to £l% 10/-; light £7 to £9 10/-; extra prime heifers to £l3 12/6; prime £9 5/- to £ll 5/-; ordinary £7 to £9; light £4 12/6 to .£6 15/-; extra prime cows to £l3 12/6; prime £8 to £lO 10/.-; ordinary £5 15/- to £7 15/-; inferior £3 15/- to £5 10/-.
Vealers.—Killable stuff sold well at late rates. Good vealers made to £6 10/-; best calves £4 to £4 17/6; medium calves £2 12/6 to £3 15/-; poor stuff 20/- to 25/-. Store Cattle. —A pen of 3£ -year Hereford steers sold at £.10; good cows made £4, The entry was nondescript.
