KOPUTAROA’S POST OFFICE.

MAKING THE APPROiACHES

In a letter to the Hiorowlieniia County Council on Saturday, the District Engineer of the Public Works Department advised that a contract had been let for the removal of the post office building at Parkvale (Wairarapa) to Koputaroa. The work would probably be commenced this week, and it was expected that the, building will be re-erected in about three weeks’ time on a portion of the railway reserve, and as an approach to the new building would require to be made, involving the laying of approximately 24ft of 9-inch earthenware pipe to carry the storm water across the frontage, in addition to the levelling and metalling of an area of about 64 yards, the Department would be glad to have the Council undertake the work of constructing the approach. The chairman moved that the Council would undertake the work at the Department’s expense. Cr. Kilsby said lie understood that the work was to be done on railway property and would involve removing a four-foot bank of spoil there. There seemed to be some obligation on the Council’s part to remove that. The chairman said he did not think they had any obligation. He moved as above.

Cr. Catley said it was the policy of the Council at one time to make an approach to public places. Councillors: Oh no, O’. Catley. Cr. Catley: You did it at the Ohau Post Office.

The Engineer-said that they bad assisted the postal department but bad not done all the work. The Chairman’s motion was carried.
