COUNTY ELECTIONS.

LESS AGGREGATE VOTING. MEW MEMBERS RETURNED TO COUNCIL AND BOARD. The.fact of the weather being particularly (bad yfesterday, 'accounted feu- a very large decrease iin the total number of votes recorded for the respective ridings, in connection with the Horowhenua County and Electric Power Board 'elections.' In the Wirokino Riding, for example, 1254 votes were registered, against 1859 at the 1923 election, or almost 50 per cent. less. A similar condition prevailed in the Power Board contest when 1139 votes were recorded as compared with 1508 in 1923. . As a result of the elections the County Council will have two new members, Messrs W. E. Kilsby and A. MoLeavey replacing Messrs C. I. Harkness (who. did not stand) and .S. A. Broadbelt (who w.as defeated) in the Wirokino Riding. The other sitting -member, MrG.P. Catley, headed the poll. In the Tokomaru, Hiding, the sitting members, Messrs H. Barber and J. R. Whyte, were returned by a handsome majority. Power Board also undergoes a change, Mr T. G. Vincent displacing Mr A. A, 'Brown. The other Sitting members, Messrs Monk and Seifert were decisively re-elected. For the Palmerston Hospital Board, the v sitting members, Messrs Broadbelt and Ryder were re-elected, while Mr Catley, the third County representative, is a new member replacing Mr W. Murdoch, who did not stand owing to removal the district. The; defeat of Mr Broadbelt in the Wirokino Riding will be regretted by all in close touch with County affairs. He has been a councillor for twelve, years and has during that period never spared himself or his time in attending to the affairs of the County, while his sound and independent judgment has been of great assistance at the Council table. He owes his position on the poll to the division of opinion in the riding upon the Buckley Drainage question and the route of the Main Highway on both, of .which he spoke with no uncertain voice. While regretting Mr Broadbelt's absence from the Council, the advent of new ideas and critics is always to be welcomed in local govern--1 m'ent, and in this connection Messrs McLeavey and Kilsby are to be congratulated ou their success. Mr Brown, who was.-riot re-elected for the Power Board, has been a member since its inception. There was a feeling, perhaps, amongst electors ■ that tihe flax industry, with three millers on the Board, had too great a preponderance of representation, and this no doubt is responsible for hie position. Mr. Vincent, who displaced him, is the special representative of the dairying industry; though as he made clear dn his election address, he does not intend to place it before the general interests of the Power Board. Particulars of the voting are as (follow:
