MAORILAND PICTURES.
I* "THE NIGHT CLUB'' OPENS. "The Night Club" opens in Shannon on Saturday. It's a new Paramount picture featuring Raymond Griffith, the funny fellow with the high hat; Vera Reynolds, Wallace Beery and Louise Fazenda, at the Maoriland Theatre. The story is based on the stage play, "After Five,", by William: de Mille and has to do with a young fellow, who loses all faith in women, when the "only girl" leaves him standing at the Ray Griffith, as Robert White, inherits a million dollars from his uncle. But 'there's a catch in it. To collect, Ray has to marry a certain girl mentioned in the will. That lets him out. He passes up the money and goes to Spain to forget about women in general and who should he meet there but—the girl of the will. It's a great situation—one that furnishes no end of laughs for the audience.
. "LORRAINE OF THE LIONS." Lorraine is the seven-year-old daughter of a disinherited circus owner. While the ship is returning to America from Australia it is- wrecked and the only survivors are the girl and many of the circus animals. The girl grows up among them and twelve years later, at the instigation of an Englishwoman who has studied oriental mysticism, the grandfather or--1 ganises an expedition and rescues the girl. A cousin) who wanted to. inherit the old man's fortune puts as many "obstacles in the way as possible. The life of the girl in the South Seas is filled with excitement. The cousin tries toi put her out of the way and a huge gorilla kills him. Lorraine blames the lions. When they return to civilisation she takes the wild beast along. Her escapades iii. very proper society , are exceedingly- amusing. Thrills are added when the wild beast becomes insanely jealous of the girl's suitors, attacking Don McKay, the favoured one during a social affair. The girl saves him by her hypnotic power but the gorilla grabs her and is about to drop her off the roof of the building when she summons her power again and forces the beast to release her. A moment'later the animal starts to swing to the ground on an electric wire and is killed. "Lorraine of the Lions" will be screened, a.t the Maoriland Theatre on Monday night, .
