THE CRISIS.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—With you usual fair play, wiJl you permit the writer to point- tu the strange contradiction in the present, crisis between the teachings of Christ, and tho attitude of those who profess to be His followers. If they read His words they will note- how H.is whole life was devoted to fighting the wealthy oppressors of the poor. Let these who call themselves "Christians" ask themselves what would be His attitude toward those poor fellows who are fighting merely to retain the present miserable pittance for their wives and children. Should He return now, His ears would -be assailed with loud denunciations of their methods, but would He not fix a piercing eye upon these accusers, and ask "How long have these people suffered in patience, how long have they tried every possible peaceful methods?" It is argud that the mine-owners (who made huge fortunes in war-time) cannot afford to pay a living wage. Well! What happens when a grocer cannot pay his employees?. He does the work himself, or gives up business to those who can. He does not call upon the Government and "the whole 1 nation to assist him in what the,Bible calls "grinding the faces of the poor." Christians, Awake! No longer flout the teachings of your great Master, look beyond, your weak and timid leaders, "to the One-who never feared to speak unpopular truths.—l am, etc., A CHRIST-LOVER.
