ANNUAL MEETING
| Tim annual meeting of the Shannon [branch of the .above Society was held ;in the Council Chambers on Friday ■ evening. There /was- a good gattendtance of members! Whyte visited Shannon through an invitation from the Chamber of Commerce, and gave an outline of Plunkefc work, with the idea of forming a sub-branch at Shannon. There was a fairly well attended meeting of those interested and it was decided that the Plu-nket Nurse - visit Shannon once a week to. see if enough inducement offered to form a subbranch. Nurse Jones was appointed toi visit Shannon every Monday, and after having made visits for three months, a public meeting was held on August 25th, 1925, in the Council Chambers. There was a fair attendance of the public and a sub-branch was formed. Nurse Jones still visited and much otfi the success is due to' the very untiring attention she de-
voted to the work and all will be sorry at losing such a capable nurse and we .appreciate the good work she has done in Shannon. All wish Nurse Jones much success and happiness in die work she is beginning in Australia.” To raise funds for the. Society a street stall was held in September, when £l9 was raised, a dance in October netted £l2, collections from Mangahao £lB, subscriptions and other donations £2O, making about £7O to carr\' on with. At the beginning of March a Baby Carnival was held, when £2OO was raised. The Society is now on a good footing and the Committee hopes that mothers will support the Nurse in her work and keep the branch on a sound footing. During tire last ten months the Nurse visited Shannon on 43 occasions, number of homes visited 63, adults to room 405, children to!.rooms 421. The committee wish to thank the following: Borough Council, for use of room tree for four months; members of Brethren Church, for fur- , ther use of room free; Mr Thwait.es, ‘use of scales; Mr Hyde, conveying Nurse round district; Mir C. C. Franks, reduced charges .in taxi fares; Goldingharn and Beckett, conveying Nurse (from Shannon to Palmerston North; Shannon “News” and all others who have helped further by donations, 'gifts, and in other ways. The; Baby Carnival was a great, success and the Committee wish to place on record their thanks to the general public for the very liberal way all helped and gave to the cause.—The report- was adopted.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Ihe following officers were elected for the ensuing yea-r:—President, Mrs Clifford-Jones; vice-presidents-, Mesdames Hutton and Hudson; general committee, M-esdaines T. ‘A. Johnston, C. Easton, McKenzie, McCulloch, saxon, Hi. Seifert, Hardie, Cronques-t, E. Spencer, W. Baird, F. Mardon, Robinson, Mason, Waring-Taylor, Jamieson; secretary and treasurer, Mrs J. S'. Spencer; Advisory Boaa*d, Messr-o Braun, W. Hutton, Dr. Mackei-eth, J. V. Burns, R- L. Tippler and Hyde. 'Mrs Spencer (secretary) and Mrs Hutton were appointed del-eg-ates to attend the Biennial Conference in Wellington in July.
