FIRE IN SHANNON.
HOUSE AND CONTENTS TOTALLY DESTROYED. Early on Wednesday morning a .fire broke out in a four-robmed house, in Plimmer Terrace, owned and occupied by Mr S. Finlay. At about 12,30 a.m., Mrs Finlay, who with her two children were the only occupants of the house, was awakened by something falling in one 'of the other rooms. On opening her bedroom door * to- investigate, she found the house was on fire. She at, once aroused her two children, the occupants escaping in their night attire. When discovered the* fire had-a good hold and fanned by a breeze, , the building, which was a.n old one, together with the contents, was soon razed to the ground. v It is understood there was an insurance of £SOO on the building in the State Office and' £IOO on the contents. Tlie occurrence is made more unfortunate as Mr Finlay is at present an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital.
