GOLF NOTES.

In spite of threatening weather on Saturday morning last, tile afternoon cleared and remained fine for the beginning of golf for 1926.. Over 30 members turned out, and a most enjoyable afternoon tea was supplied by the ladies. Altliough the groundsman bad such short notice -he did a wonderful amount of work in preparing greens, erecting stiles and making tees. Every green had been top dressed with sand and will soon be in splendid order. All players were very favourably impressed with the lay-out of the course and the “sporty’’ nature of links, and if the beginning is any indication of the future, the club may look forward.to a .very interesting season’s golf, and be congratulated upon having such suitable grounds' at-its disposal. It is hoped" within the next wepk to have the greens fenced and so add considerably to Hie enjoyment of the game. By to-morrow the ladders 'Wall he ready, and a challenge 'blackboard lias been erected. This is a new departure and it. is hoped by it. to avoid confusion and misunderstanding in .ladder matches. It will operate as follows: A member arranges a ladder match with a. fellow -player, and enters both names, and date - of challenge on the .board. At the .end of a-week from date of challenge, or as soon as notified of the result- of the match if it is played within one week from date- of challenge, the committee will clean off names from the board, and arrange the'names on the ladder according, to the result of match or of failure tof play. Names will not be left on the board for more than one week. Should a member challenged not be able to play within the specified time of one week be will be considered to have lost file match. Players are requested to acquaint themselves with the rules governing ladder matches. Play to-morrow will he arranged by the. members themselves, there being no club*' matches.
