As a token of recognition of the valuable services she has given she asked Nurse Jones to accept .a handsome greenstone paper knife, suitably inscribed. The .recipient, in thanking the committee for their thoughtfulness, stated she appreciated the assistance they had rendered her, which had .made the carrying out of her duties mulch easier. She stated that she would always have very vivid and kind .remenilbrances of .Shannon, as, the first Plunket baby to come under her charge came from Shannon and for that -reason she had always been anxious for a branch of the Society to be opened here. Now she had the satisfaction of knowing that not only had a branch 'been opened, but it. had .been an unqualified succps6 and she felt sure the work would be continued. The Governor-General will appoint Pie Hen. C. P. Skerrett, the Chief Justice, his deputy, during His Excellency's absence from the Dominion on his tour of the Cook Islands.
