Woking Police Court presented a remarkable scene recently, a large number of Moslems crowded into the court to bear a case in which six wenknown Moslems, residing ,at the mosque, were charged with assaulting Mr. Stanley Dale, the boys ’ master at the Southern Railway Orphanage. The easy arose out of a snowballing incident on Jan. 19, when one of the Moslems struck Mr. Dale’s son, causing his nose to bleed. Mr. Dale went to the mosque in order to have an explanation, and it was alleged that he was set upon by six of the residents, knocked to the ground, beaten and kicked. Mr. Dale, in evidence, stated that when ho went to the mosque he saw K. S. Mahmud, who got very excited, and five others arrived on the scene. Mahmud knocked him down, and two caught hold of his arms, while the others kicked and struck him on the ground. He broke away, and was chased by the men, shouting, “Engish pig, English cat, English rat, catch him, kill him! ” He managed to escape and informed the police. Later in the flay he was examined by a doctor, who told the Bench that Mr. Dale had been badly ill-treated, and some of the injuries were' of a serious character. — Corroborative evidence was given by Mr. Dale’s son and wife and two lads, who saw the assault.—For the defence it was stated that Mr. Dale was in a violent temper -when he saw Mahmud, who is a member of the Bar, and made use of insulting language towards defendants. As members of the British Empire, they resented these insults. Defendants gave evidence denying the assault, but Mahinud admitted striking Mr. Dale in defence. The other defendants alleged that Dale called them “Blackie,” and “sons of a pig.”— After a hearing of three hours, all defendants were bound over, and notice of appeal was given.
