SULPHUR FUMES AT ROTORUA.

ENGINEER’S CLOSE CALL. ROTORUA, April 12. Andrew Grey Muir, Public Works Engineer, superintending the construction of the Rotorua Drainage Works, descended a junction pit at the corner of Eruera and Fenton Streets, presumably to inspect it. Frederick Davies, proprietor of a taxi motor works adjoining the pit, looked down and saw Muir in a state of collapse. He gave the alarm, and Henry Charles' Church, a worker, jumped into the pit, seized Muir and held his body up above the fumes till assistance arrived. Muir was completely unconscious. Dr. Lewis, after twenty minutes, restored respiration and Muir was taken to the Hospital, where he lies in. a serious condition. The sulphur,fumes are particularly bad at present, the weather conditions prevailing accentuating the danger.
